Stem growth and distribution
Terminal segments retain the capacity to elongate and measured 22–90 cm in the Minas Gerais account. Small lateral flowers have pale tepals with yellowish areas, while fruits range from whitish to reddish. Plants were documented in seasonal forests, on urban trees and in disturbed sites. This habitat range explains why occurrence outside closed forest alone does not establish that a particular plant was introduced [Tortorelli et al. 2025].
In 2026, a previously collected specimen from the Cristalina area of Goiás was also confirmed. This extends distributional documentation through preserved material. The collection date and the date when its floristic significance was recognised are separate events. Provenance records connect a plant with a particular environment without inferring its requirements from a general image of the genus [Taylor et al. 2026a].
Early growth and stress
In the eight-species experiment, Rhipsalis lindbergiana seeds germinated well at 20–25 °C. Survival of emerged seedlings was reduced at 30 °C, while seeds failed to germinate at 35 °C. Separate PEG treatments showed lower seedling survival when water uptake was restricted. These findings concern early life stages under constant laboratory conditions. They identify a sensitivity of recruitment that can coexist with adult occurrence in exposed or modified habitats [Gonçalo et al. 2026].
