Circumscription and structure

The 2017 molecular revision retained the lineage containing the generic type, Weberocereus tunilla. Species traditionally named W. glaber and W. tonduzii were placed within Selenicereus. Flattened stems arose independently in different epiphytic lineages and need to be considered alongside floral characters and DNA. [Korotkova et al. 2017, pp.10–11]

Flowers and pollination

In W. tunilla, field observations documented bat visits and pollen on their fur. W. trichophorus and material historically identified as W. biolleyi were additionally studied in a greenhouse with a colony of Glossophaga soricina. These trials confirmed that bats could visit the flowers under controlled conditions. The field result for W. tunilla and the greenhouse trials with the other plants have separate scopes.
