Stems and ribs

Jones’s protologue describes basally branched plants reaching 2–3 m in height. The stems bear 10–15 sharp ribs. Their numerous ribs give them a rounder outline than typical senita stems. [Jones 1934]

Flowering zone

In the flowering zone, the areoles are more closely spaced and woolly, with spines 4–6 cm long. The flowers were described as coral-coloured, approximately 3 cm long and wide. [Jones 1934]

Type locality and habitat

The type material was collected at Aguja Ranch in 1933. Jones recorded silty canyon floors opening towards the coast. This observation concerns the type locality. Current POWO data confirm native occurrence in Baja California Sur within desert and dry shrubland environments. [Jones 1934] [2-WWW]
