Brown spines in the classical group

In the 2020 key, Cochemiea maritima belonged to a pair of species with 4–5 central spines and 10–15 radial spines. It was recognised by dark brown spines and occurrence in the Punta Blanca area of Baja California. The key presented a narrow treatment of the genus covering red-flowering species.
