Name and specimen examined
Plants of the World Online accepts Thelocactus setispinus (Engelm.) E.F.Anderson. Hamatocactus setispinus is its synonym. Majeed and colleagues' 2020 publication used the accepted combination Thelocactus setispinus. Reference specimen ISL-SMC-13 was collected in Pakistan on 14 May 2018 and deposited in the ISL herbarium. The country where this material was collected does not describe the species' natural range. Grain shape and wall surface
Pollen was described as prolate-spheroidal, slightly elongated along the polar axis. The polar-to-equatorial diameter ratio was 1.10. Grains were tricolpate. Three elongated apertures, regions with differently structured walls, run along the grain. The surface of the exine, the outer wall layer, was granular and perforated, with slightly sunken furrows. [Majeed et al. 2020, wersja PDF, p. 3–5, tabele 2–3, ryc. 1–2]
Mean polar diameter was 78.10 ± 1.63 µm, equatorial diameter 70.85 ± 1.28 µm, and exine thickness 4.00 ± 0.26 µm, with standard errors reported. Up to ten randomly selected grains were measured for each trait. Sample ranges were 72–90.75 µm, 65.25–76.50 µm and 2.75–5.25 µm, respectively. This is a micromorphological description of specific herbarium material. [Majeed et al. 2020, wersja PDF, p. 2–4, tabela 3]
