Importance of dry-season rainfall

For T. conothelos, precipitation in the driest quarter dominated, with a permutation importance of 61.2%. Precipitation in the wettest quarter had an importance of 18.8%. Across the comparison, this species was most clearly distinguished by the importance of water in the statistically driest part of the year. [Mosco 2019, p. 6, Tables 1–2]

The model was built from 119 occurrence records and ten climatic and topographic variables. Niche breadth, estimated using the dimensionless Levins index, was 0.025. Variable importance was calculated by permuting data in the Maxent model. The results concern the regional profile of the sites. The analysis did not experimentally examine stem temperature tolerance or responses to watering. [Mosco 2019, p. 3–6, 10–12]
