Accepted name

Plants of the World Online accepts Thelocactus buekii as a distinct species. Its synonymy includes Echinocactus buekii and Thelocactus tulensis subsp. buekii. These names allow material described in older literature to be located. [2-WWW]

Rainfall in the two extreme quarters

In the model for T. buekii, precipitation in the wettest quarter had the greatest permutation importance (36.6%), followed closely by precipitation in the driest quarter (31.4%). Maximum temperature of the warmest month had an importance of 18.8%. This describes an occurrence-distribution profile combining seasonal water supply with thermal conditions. [Mosco 2019, p. 6, Tables 1–2]

The model was built from 50 occurrence records and ten climatic and topographic variables. Niche breadth, estimated using the dimensionless Levins index, was 0.030. Variable importance was calculated by permuting data in the Maxent model. The results concern the regional profile of the sites. The analysis did not experimentally examine stem temperature tolerance or responses to watering. [Mosco 2019, p. 3–6, 10–12]
