Plants of the World Online accepts the name Pseudorhipsalis alata. The atlas synonymy preserves earlier generic combinations and directs them to the same species record. [2-WWW]

Pollen and phylogenetic relationships

Pseudorhipsalis alata is one of three species for which the 2017 revision reports pollen forming tetrads. Four grains remain associated after meiotic divisions of the pollen mother cell. The authors related this character to a group comprising P. alata, P. himantoclada and P. lankesteri. Support for this group depended on the analytical method used. [Korotkova et al. 2017, pp.12–13]

An analysis of four plastid DNA regions covers a broad sample of Hylocereeae and comparative groups. The findings support changes in several generic circumscriptions, separation of Deamia and the union of two Pseudoacanthocereus species with Strophocactus wittii. The paper includes comparisons of stems, roots, flowers and fruits, and the new combinations Strophocactus brasiliensis and S. sicariguensis.
