Rootstocks and partner compatibility

Comparison of 19 entries from the literature. A name given at genus level means the author did not identify a species or particular clone.

Rootstock selection combines assessment of growth rate, stem structure, dormancy rhythm and temperatures tolerated by both parts. Scion establishment in the first weeks and durability of the union after several years are separate outcomes.

The values and uses in the table retain their source context. Rootstock frost hardiness does not determine scion hardiness. In the name ×Harrisinopsis, the multiplication sign indicates hybrid origin.

Echinopsis [2-WWW]EchinopsisSiewki. liczne Astrophytum. Ariocarpus. The source often gives neither species nor clone. All Echinopsis should not be equated with E. oxygona.[Biuletyn PTMK, Oddział we Wrocławiu 1989, file p. 5, 6, 7, 8]
Echinopsis oxygona [2-WWW]Echinopsis eyriesiiRootstock for multiplying stems.WCVP uses E. oxygona. There is no universal durability or minimum overwintering temperature.[Modrakowski 2005, file p. 46]
Echinopsis spachiana [2-WWW]Trichocereus spachianusA more vigorous rootstock for A. myriostigma and A. ornatum.Obecnie Echinopsis spachiana.[Wery 1989, file p. 8]
