Status and significance for reading older studies

Consolea intermedia Hoxey & Gdaniec was published in 2023 in “Caribbean Journal of Science”, volume 53, on page 127. POWO accepts it as a distinct species native to the Dominican Republic, associated with the seasonally dry tropical biome. It has a separate atlas record, without unverified synonyms being added. Papers on anther and ovule development and chromosome numbers in Consolea from 2002–2008 do not name this species. Results from material formerly identified as C. picardae or C. moniliformis have not been assigned to C. intermedia without reidentifying specimens. Study dates and retained voucher specimens define the limits of possible interpretation here. [Strittmatter et al. 2002] [Negrón-Ortiz 2007] [Strittmatter et al. 2006] [Strittmatter et al. 2008]
