Cultivation

Collector observation

M. Moreno recommends an acidic substrate, allows a peat mix, and recommends warmth and relatively abundant watering during summer growth. Keep dry or water very sparingly in winter, depending on temperature. Protect from frost. [Kaktusy i Inne 2006a, file p. 21, 22]

Tolerance of summer watering should not be confused with resistance to waterlogging.

Propagation

Collector observation

Fresh seeds and warmth. The author gives a minimum of 30°C without studying the optimum. Cuttings are about 15 cm long with a more woody base. Allow wounds to heal for at least a week, and longer for green, well-hydrated pieces. [Kaktusy i Inne 2006a, file p. 22, 23]

Szczepienie

Collector practice

The material describes grafting a single tubercle of Didierea madagascariensis onto Alluaudia procera or Portulacaria afra. The account concerns D. madagascariensis. The proposals presented require assessment of the durability of the union and the compatibility of the particular plants. [Kaktusy i Inne 2006a, file p. 23]

The author gives no comparative results or observations spanning many years.
