Uprawa zimowa

Collector practice

The materials recommend a sunny, well-ventilated position, water drainage and autumn hardening. Winter hardiness in the ground requires a separate assessment from resistance to brief, dry frost. Lists from 2002–2005 describe collectors' experience at that time. [Bydgoski Klub Miłośników Kaktusów 2002, file p. 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11]

Propagation and grafting

Collector observation

For rooting and grafting, the authors use well-hydrated segments, usually from the previous year, and young segments for small seedlings. Modrakowski rates humifusa and camanchica very highly, but had poorer long-term results with fragilis. [Modrakowski 2005, file p. 45, 46, 47]

Opuntia humifusa in its former broad sense does not unambiguously identify every currently recognized segregate and clone.
