This review explains daily stomatal regulation in CAM plants and its connections with mesophyll metabolism, the circadian clock and environmental conditions. The authors compare classical gas-exchange phases with respiratory carbon recycling and restricted exchange during drought. They also distinguish stomatal structure from actual function.
