The first stage of an experiment begun in 2008 on 100 plants in southern Texas. The paper presents two-year survival, the number and size of regrowing crowns and their fresh mass. It compares regeneration after crown loss with an undamaged control and distinguishes increased branching from restoration of the entire above-ground part.
