The study combines microsatellite markers, ecological niche modelling and areole and spine characters to delimit species in the Stenocereus griseus complex. It includes the description of Stenocereus huastecorum and compares four entities distinguished in the sampled material. Their taxonomic circumscription forms part of the interpretation of the results.
