Pitahaya in a Mediterranean climate. From supports to pollination
In March 2026, Trindade and colleagues published a review of pitahaya cultural practices on the Iberian Peninsula. They combined literature from major production regions with experience of cultivation under Mediterranean conditions. Propagation, support structures, pruning, soil management and pollination were examined. Stem arrangement affects canopy illumination and access to flowers and fruit. Hand pollination was related to cultivar selection and provision of an adequate load of compatible pollen. Bibliometric analysis identified water management and irrigation strategies as important topics for further regional research.
The review organizes evidence from many sources and proposes multi-year trials comparing production systems. For readers in Poland, it provides a reference for plant biology and planning cultivation under cover.
