Stenocactus

A natural hybrid recognised from morphometrics and field observations in the Bajío region. It has an intermediate number of complete ribs and numerous incomplete ribs. The proposed parents are Stenocactus coptonogonus and S. obvallatus material identified in the paper as S. pentacanthus.

A Mexican cactus whose field material from Bajío was distinguished by a low number of complete ribs. The species was studied in experiments on seedling microenvironment, passive warming and multiplication of shoots from areoles in vitro.

A species currently including Stenocactus pentacanthus in its synonymy. Material under this historical name was compared with the natural hybrid × irregularis, and weevil feeding on ribs, buds and flowers was observed in Tierra Blanca.
