Astrophytum myriostigma and rib number

Description and meaning of the name

Bicostatum, tricostatum, quadricostatum and multicostatum can be horticultural descriptions of rib number. In that usage, they mean two, three, four or many ribs respectively. Rib number can change during growth. The subspecies name quadricostatum has additional taxonomic and geographical meaning. Each record preserves which sense the label uses.
