Rojas-Martínez A. E., Pavón N. P., Castillo J. P., Effects of seed ingestion by the lesser long-nosed bat Leptonycteris yerbabuenae on the germination of the giant cactus Isolatocereus dumortieri, The Southwestern Naturalist, 2015, 60(1):85-89, doi: 10.1894/TAL-69.1
The authors studied deposition of Isolatocereus dumortieri seeds by Leptonycteris yerbabuenae and germination of seeds obtained from fruits and droppings. Seeds were spat out individually or deposited in faecal clumps. Seeds from droppings germinated less well in the experiment, while their presence in a cave several kilometres from the nearest cactus population documented transport over at least that distance.
