An experiment in male rats compares the microbiota after administration of freeze-dried Myrtillocactus geometrizans fruit and an extraction residue in an AOM/DSS model. Sequencing of 16S rRNA gene fragments revealed time-dependent differences in the representation of selected bacterial genera. Alpha-diversity indices did not differ significantly between groups at the same time points. Small groups and the reported pooling of DNA constrain interpretation, and short-chain fatty acids were not measured in this paper.
