The study compares germination in four cactus species under different water potentials with fixed temperature and lighting conditions. Material came from wild and human-managed populations. Myrtillocactus schenckii germinated most slowly among the species examined, and its response depended on experimental conditions. The results did not support a general increase in germinating seeds’ water requirements with increasing management intensity.
