The Guanajuato experiment compares stem cuttings planted directly in the field with material first rooted in nurseries. The procedure included allowing cut surfaces to dry and using shelter from local vegetation. Nursery material passed through a separate survival stage before later transfer to the field. The results show the importance of successive stages and planting conditions when interpreting propagation success.
