This paper relates saguaro stem growth, spine carbon-isotope composition and seasonal plant-volume changes to climate. A six-population comparison in 2014 is supplemented by observations of two populations during 2013–2016. Considering both precipitation and vapour-pressure deficit distinguishes spatial and temporal growth relationships.
