A tracer experiment in Zapotitlán demonstrated movement of water from adult cacti described as Neobuxbaumia tetetzo to Mimosa luisana shrubs. The authors used deuterium labelling, pretreatment controls and controls in neighbouring vegetation patches. The study establishes that transfer occurred, while its pathway and consequences for survival require further investigation.
