A study of plastomes in 43 representatives of seven Opuntieae genera. It presents changes in plastid genome structure, phylogenetic reconstructions and discrepancies between analyses of whole plastomes and gene regions. It discusses the Miqueliopuntia, Salmonopuntia and Airampoa clade, and the importance of marker selection for deeper branches of the tree.
