The morphology and anatomy of eight developmental stages of material from San Ángel, described as Mammillaria san-angelensis, from the first day after germination to four-year-old plants. The authors measure seedling dimensions and five meristem traits, and describe the formation of tubercles and the spine-producing and floral parts of the areole. The analysis of intermediate stages compares meristem growth with stem size. The discussion presents evidence and further methods for studying tubercle homology and growth control.
