An analysis of the distribution and ecology of 743 population records for 47 taxa, divided into Rapicactus and Turbinicarpus under the treatment used at the time. It compares herbarium and field data, limestone and gypsum substrates, site elevations, climate and stem diameters. The relationship between diameter and geographical position was studied in 230 populations, 59 of which belonged to Rapicactus. It includes maps, regression models and a discussion of microenvironmental differences and sampling limitations.
