Observations of consumers of Eulychnia acida fruits in Las Chinchillas reserve and experiments with degus, goats and guanacos. They examine seed recovery from faeces, germination under controlled conditions and cactus size structure inside and outside the reserve. The results distinguish fruit consumption from effective dispersal. The authors consider the historical role of extinct herbivores as a hypothesis.
