Epiphyte removal experiments and microclimate measurements in Chilean and Peruvian fog environments. In Eulychnia saint-pieana, now treated by POWO as E. breviflora, lichens changed temperature and vapour pressure deficit near the stem. The paper compares water interception by model plants, its retention by epiphytes and the rate of soil drying. It separates water input from water conservation through changes in the microenvironment.
