The first cytogenetic study of material from Cosma in Áncash identified as Armatocereus mataranus subsp. ancashensis. It covers chromosome number, the distribution of 5S and 45S rDNA, nuclear DNA content and endopolyploidy in young stems. POWO places this material within A. matucanensis. The data describe one population, while the physiological significance of endoreduplication remains a hypothesis.
