A comparison of ripe fruits from four epiphytic cacti of the Argentine Yungas covers pulp composition, aqueous and ethanolic preparations, two antioxidant models and the Ames assay with and without S9 activation. For Pfeiffera ianthothele, it documents pale fruits, absence of detectable assayed betalains, extract activity in chemical tests and a weak antimutagenic response. The scope comprises laboratory models without assessment of effects in humans.
